Tracey Starr, Editori-in-Chief

Tracey Starr

In 2003, Tracey followed her husband’s career to Shanghai. She made the difficult decision to leave her own prestigious position at a Fortune 500 company and a fabulous downtown Chicago flat to set out on an expatriate adventure. Five years and three cities later, she has no regrets.

But in the beginning, she struggled with her role of “trailing spouse.” At cocktail parties and networking events, she stumbled every time someone asked, “And what do you do?” She started to wonder, “What do I do? And, more importantly, what do I want to do?”

Since then, she’s learned to speak Chinese, studied International Relations, volunteered for women’s groups—most recently serving as the President of the American Women’s Club of Thailand—and sought her passion. In 2008, she combined her own expat experiences with her love of magazines to found Acclimate—a magazine dedicated to helping expatriate women find their best life in Bangkok.

Tracey holds a BA in Journalism from the Pennsylvania State University, and an MA in Human Resource Development from the George Washington University. Originally from Pennsylvania, she has also lived in Washington DC; Chicago; Guanajuato, Mexico; Shanghai, China; and Nanjing, China. In March 2009, Tracey and her husband Darrell Doren moved to Hong Kong. She now divides her time between starting her new life there and enjoying the one she's already established here in Bangkok.
